The Doordarshan Kendra at Amritsar came into Existence on 23 September 1973, which was shifted to Jalandhar on 13 April 1979. It has two transmitters, one at Amritsar and another at Pathankot. Each transmitter has 90 kilometers range. The Doordarshan Kendra at Jalandhar covers whole Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Chandigarh. The programmes of Doordarshan Kendra are relayed from three different stations, viz Amritsar, Kasauli and Bathinda. Sometime back It has also launched one special channel for Punjab named as "DD Punjabi" which relays Punjabi programmes. These programmes enlighten the viewers in cultivating modern social modes.
The district is having one Radio Broadcasting Station, named ‘All India Radio’, Jalandhar, which came into existence on 16th May, 1948. It relays three different programmes, viz. ‘Vivid Bharti’, ‘Jalandhar Service’ and ‘Urdu Service’ from the different transmitters one at Jalandhar relays ‘Jalandhar Service’ and its Range upto 500 km. The transmitters at Goraya relays ‘Vivid Bharti’ and ‘Urdu Programmes’. In FM Channel it relays many interesting programmes. A special feature of All India Radio, Jalandhar is that it relay Gurbani Vicharfrom Golden Temple, Amritsar, daily in the morning and evening.
Cable TV Network
The are many private Cable TV Operators in the city, who broadcast many interesting and informative channels through their network. Main operators are Siti Cable Network, ABC Cable network and Jalandhar Citi Cable. Siti cable also run daily news channel of Jalandhar city. Punjab Today – a Punjabi news channel has placed its reporters in Jalandhar for covering all important news.
